Mt. Nebo, Madaba, & Dead Sea

On July 13th, we set off to the East.
Our first stop was Mt. Nebo.
This a crucifix at Mt. Nebo.

We visited a workshop in Madaba that makes mosaics.

The famous map from St. George's Church in Madaba. This church was built on top of a Byzantinian church. The mosaic was a very accurate layout of the known world of the time.

We move on to the Dead Sea from Madaba.

This is the view of the Dead Sea from the newly constructed Dea Sea Panoram Museum. It is 800-900 meters above sea level. The Dead Sea is 400 meters below sea level.

No one needs a float or life preserver on the Dead Sea.

What was the temperature of air and water? When we went, it was January and quite pleasant- maybe 80 degrees near the sea, but it must be rather warm now. Mt Nebo was chilly in January.

I think the temperature at the Dead Sea was around 98. Someone that the Discovery Channel sid that since the altitude is so low that you are less likely to get a sunburn because the sun must go through so much atmosphere. I don't know if that is true. We were at Nebo in the morning, it wasn't too hot then. We have seen clouds only once or twice, and they were widely scattered.
